Charlie Hebdo gives Ukrainian cartoonists freedom

The French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo offered the pages of its May 25 edition to some forty cartoonists, most of them from Ukraine, to respond to the war with laughter. Funds proceeds from the sale of the original copies will be donated to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Ukrainian talents are almost all taken to an exhibition organized in Odessa by the Association of Cartoonists of the city, called Russian warship, fuck you. The other designers came from about twenty countries, including Russia, and joined the initiative after responding to a call for drawings on Facebook.

Signed by Yuriy Zhuravel, Oleg Gutsol or Oleksiy Kustovsky, alias Kusto, the satirical cartoons throw ironic points on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has now lasted more than three months.
