In a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, Austrian Prime Minister Karl Nehammer said Moscow would honor its gas distribution commitments and was ready to negotiate a prisoner swap with Ukraine.
Nehammer made the statements to reporters after the 45-minute speech of the two leaders.
When asked what Putin had to say about gas deliveries, Nehammer said, “He also raised (and said) the issue that all deliveries would be completed in full.”
In a separate statement from the Kremlin, it was stated that Russia reaffirmed its commitment to fulfill its contractual obligations to supply natural gas to Austria, which receives 80 percent of its natural gas from Russia.
Nehammer, who visited Russia last month to meet with Putin, said the Russian leader expressed his desire to discuss a prisoner exchange with Ukraine.
“Whether he’s really ready to negotiate is a complex question,” he added.
