Victims of sexual assault in the Sault Ste. Marie can now report these incidents online.
Announced by Sault Ste. Marie Police that they have added sexual assault incidents that can be reported to their online reporting system.
Receiving online sexual assault reports is only intended to provide the victim with the best and comprehensive service possible.said Sergeant Marc Dubie, in a press release.
Online reporting gives victims a confidential way to report this crime and allows us to assign the appropriate officer to investigate more quickly.He added.
Police say they want this reporting option to reduce stress for victims and encourage them to come closer.
Our goal as a service is to support victims and members of our community at all times.Chief Hugh Stevenson said in the statement.
He said Sault Ste. Marie Police received 800 reports on their online reporting system in 2021. This year, she said that number is 291 so far.
Police said members of the Central Support Office monitor all online reports and liaise with complainants to assist with the investigation process.
