Punjabi diaspora icon Sidhu Moose Wala was shot and killed in India on Sunday. On the same day, several hundred people gathered in Surrey, home of Canada’s second-largest population in South Asia, for a memorial observance of the star.
His murder may have been the result of rivalry between the gangs, according to Indian police.
In India, authorities said Sidhu Moose Wala left his home in a Jeep-branded car with two other people around 4:30 pm local time on Sunday.
An hour later, occupants of three cars-one in the back of Sidhu Moose Wala’s car and two more on either side-shot the vehicle in which the 28-year-old rapper and music producer was traveling.
Sidhu Moose Wala was injured and taken to the hospital where he died, police said. He added that the murder was likely the result of a rivalry of intergang.
A vigil in Surrey in honor of the actor

Punjab State Prime Minister Bhagwant Mann offered his condolences to Sidhu Moose Wala on Twitter, as the Congress party announced his death was a terrible shock to the Congress party and to the entire country.
