After long months of waiting, back to school promises to be feverish for Marie-Eve Dicaire. The Quebec boxer will compete in a mini-tournament to unite the IBF and WBC super-welterweight belts, his promoter Yvon Michel has confirmed to Radio-Canada Sports.
Thus, Dicaire (18-1, 1 K.-O.) will participate in a three-part competition that opens Aug. 13, in Cali, Colombia, with a duel between Norwegian Cecilia Braekhus (36-2, 9 K..-O.) To Swede and WBC champion, Patricia Berghult (15-0, 3 K.-O.).
A native of Colombia, Braekhus will fight in the semi-finals of the night which will feature his compatriot and adopted Montrealer Oscar Rivas (28-1, 19 KOs). He will defend his WBC super-heavyweight title against Lukasz Rozanski of Poland (14-0, 13 KOs).
Here Dicaire will enter the ballroom as he will face the winner of the duel between Braekhus and Berghult, somewhere at the end of October or beginning of November, either at the Colisée Vidéotron in Trois-Rivières or at the Place Bell of Laval.
If Dicaire comes out of this match with two belts, he should immediately return them to the game against the loser in the first clash between Braekhus and Berghult. Note that Dicaire has not fought since the 17th of December. He then got his hands on the IBF title at the Bell Center.
First approaching for the defense of his crown last spring at the Casino de Montréal, Dicaire saw that his plans were reversed due to the turmoil of the latest wave of COVID-19.
Promoter Yvon Michel (GYM) offered him to go and fight in Colombia, but the meeting originally scheduled for June was postponed to July and then August. Dicaire declined the invitation because of his new promises as a radio co-host.
Reached by Radio-Canada Sports, his trainer Stéphane Harnois suggested that Dicaire is currently making sure to maintain good form with two boxing sessions, three physical conditioning sessions and two weightlifting sessions per week. .
The real training camp for his return to the ring will officially begin on August 20th.
