A 14-year-old was arrested and charged with using a replica gun firing gelatin capsules as ammunition and shooting children playing in a park on two separate occasions.
This was confirmed by police in the York Region, a suburb of Toronto.
According to police, around 6:35 pm on May 2, 911 was called when a young man allegedly fired his gelatin capsule weapon at a group of youths in a park located near the intersection of Sunset Ridge and Kistler Street. . He could have slightly injured the two.
Police also said that at around 2:45 pm on May 4, a group of youths were walking on Shawbridge Boulevard when a young man allegedly fired from a moving vehicle before fleeing, again using a firearm to shoot the gelatin capsule. .
The 14-year-old faces two counts of assault with a weapon. His identity will not be revealed because of his age.
York Region police say this is new challenge on social media named the Orbeez Challenge : encourage participants to shoot other people, film their exploits and post them on TikTok.
Orbeez are small multicolored gelatin capsules. Independent companies make weapons that use these capsules as ammunition. The weapons themselves are sometimes replicas of well-known weapons, such as the M16 assault rifle or HK-MP5 submachine gun, among others.
