A man was arrested after he attempted to hijack a Mississauga transit bus and then stole a supervisor’s vehicle while fleeing.
Peel Regional Police said they were called overnight Tuesday through Wednesday after a suspect approached a female bus driver and began destroying the vehicle.
The police and the union Integrated Transit Unionrepresenting employees of the Mississauga transit company, MiWay, said the suspect boarded the bus and began fighting with the driver to try to control the vehicle.
The driver finally stopped the bus while fighting his attacker.
According to officials, the suspect left the bus when a MiWay supervisor arrived at the scene. He then stole the supervisor’s car and fled.
A spokesman for the City of Mississauga said Wednesday that MiWay supervisors used GPS to track the vehicle and police soon arrested the suspect.
According to police, several poles were damaged by the driver, but no other vehicle was hit and no one was injured. Peel Regional Police said he was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and mischief of more than $ 5,000.
