Men are facing charges after the Vancouver attacks

Criminal charges were filed against a 61-year-old man after a series of random attacks at a Vancouver gas station on Wednesday morning.

Vancouver police said several people told 911 that a man hit a pedestrian with his vehicle at an Esso gas station near Hastings and Skeena streets around 6:30 am Wednesday.

The same man chased several people, armed with a knife and machete, according to testimonies reported by police. The individual allegedly punched another man before returning to the pedestrian to stab him in the neck and back.

I was surprised. I almost chokedtestified to David Leonardo, who said he saw the attacker attack the pedestrian lying on the ground.

The latter was taken to hospital and his injuries did not put his life in danger, police authorities specify.

The 61-year-old forward faces charges of assault, aggravated assault, uttering threats and operating a means of transportation in a manner dangerous to the public.

The man remains in custody pending his appearance.
