Netherlands coach Luis van Gaal called tonight’s 4-1 win against Belgium “a collective victory” but praised the work of Frenkie de Jong and Steven Bergwijn. It had been 25 years, since 1997, that the Dutch had not beaten their neighbor and eternal rival.

“Frenkie is always good with the ‘oranje'”, said the coach after the match in which his team beat the ‘red devils’ with goals from Bergwijn, Dumfries and a brace from Memphis.
Van Gaal also referred to Bergwijn, who scored the first goal against Belgium after appearing in just 25 games this season for Tottenham Hotspur.
“Really incredible. I don’t understand why he doesn’t play as much at Tottenham, although there are more options there in terms of competition,” he said.
Van Gaal considered that it was important to beat Belgium because they are the second team in the world in the FIFA ranking. “It gives us confidence,” he concluded.
