Sailing with dolphins, spearfishing fish to eat the same night, but most of all feeling the passage of time, this is the look of the last 11 months of Trois-Rivières Philip Paquin and Océane Routhier. The father and son boarded a boat in July. Their trip took them to the Bahamas.
This isn’t the duo’s first adventure. Philip and Océane did some backpacking trips together, but going on a boat was different, according to them.
” We had a strange experience! “
They removed the veils after only a few hours of lessons. Some of their friends gave them valuable advice. We’re not ready enough yet and one day you just have to do itOcéane explained.
Their journey has not been easy. They are faced with some bad weather. Now they are proud of the experience they gained at sea.
We were surprised at the strength of the wind that came more often than not. Sometimes three, four days on the barricaded boat because it’s too windy and you can’t get outOcéane recalled.
It’s hard to get to the United States
The prolonged closure of the American shutdown due to the pandemic gave them a difficult time. They were denied entry there for the first time after the diversion to Nova Scotia. They finally crossed the border when it reopened to Canadians.
At one point, you reach a point of no return. You can’t go back, the marinas are closed, it’s getting cold, there’s ice. So there, what do we do? On November 4, we were in Nova Scotia and it was -3 ° C in the morning. We returned to New Jersey on the 8th, when the borders were officially opennarration by Philip Paquin.
A freedom worth gold
The two acolytes took the opportunity to take advantage of the present moment. Side by side, they observed the stars on the boat several times.
When you and I sat on the boat listening to music, contemplating the good life, the stars in the sky when we sailed at night.said Océane to her father, talking about the most beautiful moments of the journey.
For them, the boat is the true symbol of freedom. After all, their boat has already been sold. We closed the door now to open the othersend of Océane.
