Schools in southern Ontario continue to receive threats.
On Monday, seven schools on the Toronto English Public School Board (TDSB) had to be put on lockdown for nearly an hour because of “threats,” according to the school board.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate Institute was put on full lockdown. Jack Miner Public School Senior, Guildwood Public School Junior, Maplewood Secondary School, Eastview Public School, Elizabeth Simcoe Public School Junior and Popular Road Public School Junior went under lockdown.
The school board clarified in a Twitter post that all students are safe. The exact start time of the confinements was not specified, but they were removed around 12:45 p.m.
The school board did not specify the type of threats received Monday. However, several shooting threats have been received at schools in Hamilton and Toronto, among others, in recent weeks.
In Hamilton, those threats prompted about 120 area school staff to stay home on Friday.
In Texas, on May 24, an 18-year-old man opened fire inside Robb Elementary School in the town of Uvalde, killing 19 fourth-graders and two teachers.
Also, in Toronto, a man was killed by police with an air gun in his hand near a school last week.
