A fire broke out at a Chicoutimi gas station on Monday afternoon after a vehicle overturned a gas pump.
The Saguenay Fire Department was called before 5:50 pm to intervene at the Shell service station, located at the corner of Talbot and Barrette boulevards.
Firefighters saw the column of smoke from the boulevard de l’Université. The fire broke out after a sports utility vehicle collided with one of the fuel pumps.
It is not known at this time whether incorrect maneuvering or mechanical failure could have caused the accident. Another vehicle was also hitch.
The occupants of the vehicles, as well as the employee working inside the station, quickly got out. No one got hurt.
There is still a nice fire visible at vehicle level, said Jean-Philippe Lévesque, chief of operations for the Saguenay Fire Department. He also indicated that the roof covering the bombs was affected by the heat.
When they arrived, firefighters quickly limited the damage. Using emergency devices near gas stations, we quickly hit it off, then limited it to vehicle level.added the chief of operations.
These devices make it possible to stop and block the supply to the pumps to prevent it from spreading to other pumps or even to the fuel tank.
The fire did not spread to the gas station building. The operation ended around 6:30 p.m.
The work of the firefighters had little impact on traffic, Jean-Philippe Lévesque indicated, as the firefighters ate from a fire hydrant located on Barrette Boulevard.
