Two new public television channels from the Jair Bolsonaro government are expected to hit the market next month (estimate).
The education channel and TV Libras (dedicated to the deaf) join two other channels affiliated with Planalto: TV Brasil 1 and 2 During the election campaign, Bolsonaro promised to shut down TV Brasil as a “honesty”. left.
While he didn’t keep his word, he did exactly what he blamed the PT for: He furnished the stations with sponsors and supporters.
Publishers will be in charge of the MEC (Ministry of Education), but EBC (Empresa Brasil de Comunicação) will manage it.
The contract (nº 27/2021) sent to this column by MEC consulting shows that it was signed in October last year. Valid for one year, renewable (or not) up to 5 years.
The first year of the deal (starting in October of last year) foresees an expenditure of R$25,375,114.65.
Of this amount, BRL 12,215,305.90 is fixed, BRL 13,159,808.75 is optional (content production).
This is only an estimate of the expenses in the first year of the contract, but as noted above, this “year” ends in October when there will be a new renewal.
Six for half a dozen more expensive
Interestingly, these two channels were already present at the beginning of the Bolsonaro government – the excellent TV Escola and TV Ines.
However, former minister Abraham Weintraub unilaterally terminated the contracts (not worth R$14 million at the time), in a decision that violated his contract with the Roquette Pinto foundation.
In other words, Bolsonaro’s government will pay almost twice as much to channels that already exist and function.
More “curious”: The government has rehired the entire team that had prepared TV Ines to set up TV Libras.
