A Winnipeg woman has been charged with manslaughter after her newborn baby was found dead in the trash. Police believe the child was still alive when he was abandoned.
Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Claude Chancy said officers received a report of a newborn baby in a dumpster near Boyd Avenue and Salter Street on May 3.
Officers found the body of a girl in a dumpster in the alley. A woman was identified as the child’s mother, according to Chancy.
He was arrested and taken to hospital in custody, police continued.
A 31 -year -old Winnipeg woman has been charged with manslaughter and part suppressing (a term for concealing the birth or body of a newborn).
Investigators maintain that the child was born in a residence in the neighborhood of Garden city and that the girl was alive when she was thrown in the trash.
Mr. Chancy said he could not determine how long the newborn had been in the trash and what caused his death.
