The Barcelona City Council yesterday inaugurated the commemorative plaque in the emblematic and historic Pi de les Corts, a historical vestige of the second stadium owned by FC Barcelona throughout its history, after the Camp del Carrer Indústria. The institutional vice-president of FC Barcelona, Elena Fort, attended the event together with Antoni Blanchart, president of the Penya Blaugrana de les Corts, and representative of the consistory, Joan Ramon Riera, and of the District, Francisco Sierra.
Fort alluded in his parliament to the recent centenary of the inauguration of the old field: “100 years ago Barça settled in Les Corts, this pine tree is a mute witness to history”.
The tribute to iconic pine, located at what was the entrance to the old field, has been promoted by the Penya Blaugrana de les Corts, whose headquarters are a few meters away. Numerous Barcelona fans have mobilized over the years to protect the emblematic tree, around which Barcelona fans congregated to chat on match days. Josep Castellà, one of those activists, participated in the inauguration of the plaque.
