A 5-year-old boy was found unresponsive after falling into an unused in-ground pool behind his family’s home in Repentigny.
The 9-1-1 call was received by police of this municipality on the north coast of Montreal at 3:47 pm A boy was reported to have fallen under an unused swimming pool.
Arriving at the scene, police, assisted by two neighbors, found the child in the hollow of the swimming pool and released him from there. He would have been in the mud for about twenty minutes, according to police.
The child was taken to Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center, where his condition was considered critical.
Twenty have drowned in Quebec
A Repentigny police investigation is underway to clarify the causes of the accident.
The tragedy happened a day after the death of a four-year-old child in a private swimming pool in Saint-Lambert.
Since the beginning of the year, the Lifesaving Society has recorded twenty drownings in Quebec.
