Catalytic converter thief arrested in Acadian Peninsula

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) arrested a man in Tracadie, New Brunswick, after a series of property thefts committed on the Acadian Peninsula.

Several investigations are ongoing by the police following reports in this region between September 2021 and May 2022.

On May 18, officers from the Tracadie Detachment RCMP and the local North East District Crime Reduction Group visited a residence in Losier Settlement in one of these surveys.

They discovered stolen items there, including some catalytic converters, a component part of the exhaust systems of cars and trucks.

A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with another case. He was released on parole, but is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Tracadie on Oct. 3.

The rare metals contained in catalytic converters sell at very high prices on the black market. Their theft is common in Canada for this reason.

Property crime, including theft of catalytic converters, is a problem across the province.confirmed by Sergeant Jocelyn Lebouthillier, of the Tracadie detachment RCMP.

The RCMP asking any victim of a similar crime to contact him or her or the service of anonymous Crime Stoppers.
