For the fourth time in a month, the Matane Fire Department team intervened at the GDS Valoribois plant in Matane for a fire alert.
Each time, the fire start was in a by-product container containing the shavings, sawdust and wood chips, said Matane Fire Department director Pierre Dugré.
The interventions will not last long, according to the fire chief. Tuesday morning started at 5 a.m. and an hour and a half later, fifteen firefighters returned to the barracks.
GDS teams are trying to find the source of this recurring problem, the fire department head explained. It’s not something, he says, that’s normal and everyone is trying to figure out what’s wrong. (…) In this type of problem, it may be carrying too much heat [roulement de roue] or things like that because only metal and electric motors rotate.
The director of the Matane plant, Jean-Yves Potvin, confirmed that his team is trying to understand why there have been so many fires in such a short time.
He said there was no damage and production, which had stopped, should resume shortly.
