The Court of Appeal denied Yohan Tardif-Joubert’s request

The Quebec Court of Appeal on Tuesday rejected the motion of Yohan Tardif-Joubert, who was convicted of aggravated assault after stabbing his wife’s ex-girlfriend several times in August 2018 in Rimouski.

The defense attorney, Me Maryse Beaulieu, sought pardon from her client, who was 29 years old at the time of the cases.

He tried to prove in the Court of Appeal that the jury did not consider all the circumstances surrounding this story in order to reach its verdict. According to Me Beaulieu, Yohan Tardif-Joubert’s position of weakness and the aspect of self-defense have been forgotten.

The lawyer also lashed out at the jurors for returning the inconsistent verdict, as his client was found not guilty of the attempted murder charge.

He finally felt that Judge François Huot should repeat the facts more often to better guide the jury.
