The Vegas Golden Knights announced Tuesday the hiring of Bruce Cassidy as head coach.
The 57-year-old Ottawan replaces Peter DeBoer, who was sacked in mid-May after the Golden Knights failed to reach the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in their cheap history.
Cassidy was relieved of his duties behind the Boston Bruins bench following a seven-game dismissal by his former team at the expense of the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the playoffs.
His success with the Bruins has been impressive, Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon said in a statement. Its teams still have well-defined identities and rankings among the elite on goals scored and allowed, as well as special teams. He is the right coach for our team today.
The Nevada organization’s third head coach has never missed a playoffs in six seasons as a Bruins pilot. He went 292-155-53 while amassing 38 playoff wins.
I’m excited to join a roster that shares my ambitions and I can’t wait to start working with all the talented players that are on the team.Cassidy explained.
His biggest success was guiding the Bruins to the 2019 Finals game against Stanley Cup-champion St. Louis. Louis Blues.
He won the Jack-Adams trophy, awarded to best head coach in the NHL, at the end of this season.
