9 years in prison for sexual assault of a minor and bestiality in Caraquet

A 31-year-old man from Shediac, New Brunswick, was sentenced to nine years in prison as part of an investigation for sexual assault on a minor and bestiality, in Caraquet.

Ricky Lloyd Dugas appeared in provincial court in Bathurst in late May. He was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison for sexual assault of a minor, invitation to sexual touching, bestiality and non-confrontation.

The charges stem from incidents that occurred between February and April 2019 in Caraquet.

On June 25, 2019, police received a complaint about several incidents of sexual nature in a minor and in an animal. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Ricky Lloyd Dugas in connection with the incidents in question.

In July 2020, he was arrested. He was later released and arrested several times for failing to appear in court. He was finally sentenced on May 31.

Ricky Lloyd Dugas was added to the National Sex Offender Registry for the rest of his life and will be required to provide a DNA sample.

After his release, he has to respect certain conditions imposed by the court, especially talking to a person under 16 years of age and in the same place with a person under 16 years of age, for 25 years.

In addition, he will not have his own weapons for the rest of his life.
