The mayors of the border towns want to end the ArriveCAN application

Border town mayors, tourism industry leaders and an opposition MP said it was time to say goodbye to the ArriveCAN app.

The mayors of Niagara Falls and Sarnia, Ont., Say requiring Canadian visitors to submit their medical information in advance does not encourage cross-border travel.

NDP MP Richard Cannings, who counts six border entry points on his vast southern BC riding, agrees it’s time for a better plan.

These people feel it is even more urgent to remove the app now that Ottawa is eliminating the COVID-19 vaccination requirement for domestic and international travel.

Visitors to Canada and foreigners are still required to use the app or an online portal to submit their immunization information to the Canada Border Services Agency in advance.

The government also announced last week that it had suspended random checks at airports for vaccinated travelers.
