A church bell built in the 1890s and seven bronze memorial plaques were stolen from the historic site of the oldest Ukrainian Catholic church in Canada.

The steeple of St. Michael’s Church is owned by the Trembowla Cross of Freedom Historic Site and Museum, located in Dauphin, Manitoba, more than 300 kilometers northwest of Winnipeg.
Between May 29 and June 12, the tower was knocked down and the bell stolen, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The historic site and museum commemorate the first Ukrainian Divine Liturgy celebrated in Canada in 1897, shortly after the first Ukrainians settled in Manitoba.
