“The third way is a lazy phrase created by a certain press. The so-called third way in Brazil is Bolsonaro’s widows and I have nothing to do with it,” said the lead candidate.
The statement was released to the press after lunch with Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) and Senator Cid Gomes (PDT-CE). According to Ciro, there was no discussion of alliances at lunch.
Pacheco gave up running as a Presidential candidate by the PSD in March. Gilberto Kassab’s party invited the congressman to run for the post last year.
Cid Gomes agreed to talk the third way
Cid Gomes, leader of PDT in the Senate, told Broadcast Politico that his brother and presidential party’s lead candidate, Ciro Gomes, has agreed to meet with the party in October for an essay, called the third way. The senator, on the other hand, points to Ciro as the only presidential candidate who has a project for the country beyond the denial of President Jair Bolsonaro and former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).
“Today, the biggest point of convergence is exactly what I condemn, the denial of Lula and Bolsonaro,” the senator said in an interview with Broadcast Politico. “Sincerely, what is Simone’s project at MDB? Where does it conflict with Ciro’s and why don’t we talk? What is União Brasil’s project that doesn’t even have a candidate? What does it have to do with it? Is it just a denial of Ciro or is it just Lula and Bolsonaro’s denial? ?”
The group, made up of MDB, União Brasil and PSDB, should announce its decision to launch a single candidate for the presidency. For now, the chiefs of these parties consider Ciro out of the composition, but the PDT presidential candidate wants to move forward in a negotiation without giving up his ticket. “What we’re advocating is that besides denying Lula and Bolsonaro, each presents their own project for Brazil, and we see where it’s possible to negotiate so that it’s not just a project of denial or just a personal project.”
The PDT leader said Ciro’s biggest challenge will be to consolidate himself as the “champion of the second division” and attract up to 12% of Lula’s voters who want to vote for the PT because they rejected Bolsonaro. “It’s easier for Ciro to replace Bolsonaro and face Lula. Bolsonaro is the candidate marked by death.”
