The trial of Michaël Chicoine has been postponed to 2023

The trial of the father accused of killing his two children in Wendake, in October 2020, will finally take place next January.

Michaël Chicoine’s new lawyer appeared Thursday morning at the Quebec City courthouse.

Me Alexandra Longueville, who now represents the 32-year-old man, asked Judge François Huot to adjourn the trial.

Hearings will begin in September, but Me Longueville will not be available at that time.

Postponed for four months

Judge François Huot agreed to postpone the trial until the beginning of next year.

The jury selection will take place on Jan. 16 and the hearings are expected to last between 5 and 6 weeks.

Chicoine has had to find a lawyer since her representative withdrew last month.

Michaël Chicoine faces two counts of second -degree murder with his two children Olivier, 5, and Alex, 2.

The bodies were found at a Wendake residence in October 2020.
