A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot at one of Winnipeg’s biggest summer fairs. Police say three people are in custody and have been charged.
Monday around 7 p.m., the police were called to the park Red River Exhibitionwest of Winnipeg.
Police vehicles, tape and evidence markers blocked off a section of the Red River Ex, just outside one of the restrooms, while games and rides continued a short distance away.
The CEO of the association Red River ExhibitionGarth Rogerson, said Monday that paramedics from the internal emergency services at the fair attended to the 16-year-old boy within seconds, followed closely by police and the city’s fire paramedic services.
He subsequently regained a stable condition.
Two 17-year-old boys and a 15-year-old girl from Winnipeg are charged in connection with the incident.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., they were located in a taxi in the area of Tyndall and Burrows avenues. The three accused persons were taken into custody. A loaded gun was found.
According to the police, the shooting could have taken place after an altercation.
The 15-year-old girl and the 17-year-old boy were remanded in custody. The other 17-year-old was released on a recognizance under the Criminal Code.
On Monday, the police simply said that an incident had occurred, without giving further information. She confirmed the shooting on Tuesday.
The investigation is continuing. More information is expected from the police soon.
