The Spanish U-18 soccer team still hasn’t won at the Mediterranean Games in Oran (Algeria) by drawing 1-1 against France on Tuesday, and the pass to the semifinals will be played on Thursday against Morocco, to which it is obliged to win and hope that the French beat Algeria.
After losing 1-0 to the hosts on matchday one, Spain seemed to be starting to turn things around when Álex Valle, in the 47th minute, debuted the team’s scorecard in the tournament with a left-footed shot into the top corner after taking advantage of a rebound.
But the joy of Pablo Amo’s team lasted only eight minutes, until Yvan Junior Ikia Dimi scored the equalizer with a placed shot from outside the box.
In the 94th minute, the referee annulled a goal by Julen Jon Guerrero for offside.
In the other group match, Morocco, Spain’s rival on Thursday, beat Algeria 0-2.
France, executioner of Morocco on the first day, leads the group with 4 points, one more than Morocco and Algeria, while Spain is last with one. They need to beat Morocco on Thursday and hope that Algeria does not beat France.
