A Winnipeg high school teacher has been accused of assaulting five former students and football players of the team he taught. The alleged facts began in 2004 and allegedly occurred while the defendant was teaching at Vincent-Massey and Churchill schools.

Kelsey Albert Dana McKay, 51, was arrested Tuesday and charged with five counts of sexual assault, four counts of sexual exploitation, four counts of seduction and one count of sexual interference. None of the allegations have been substantiated in court.

The police officer confirmed that Mr. McKay is still a professor at the Institut collégial Vincent-Massey. He was released on conditions.

A police spokesman said Mr. McKay has created relationships that go beyond what is typically expected with coaches and teachers.

On unpaid administrative leave

Institut collégial Vincent-Massey is a school in the Pembina Trails School Division, and Churchill College is in the Winnipeg School Division.

Pembina Trails Division General Manager Ted Fransen informed parents and students of the arrests and charges on Wednesday.

McKay is currently a Vincent-Massey professor and was placed on unpaid administrative leavesaid Fransen.

Mr. McKay was not allowed on the school grounds.

The school division is dedicated to respond as quickly as possible to any developments in this matter and to support students and employeesaccording to Ted Fransen.

Winnipeg School Division spokesman Radean Carter said police notified the division Wednesday morning.

The news of this breach of trust is detrimental for the school community.he says.

The school division’s superintendent of education services, Celia Caetano-Gomes, said she will reach out to the families of Churchill College students to offer them support with clinical services.
