The CAQ and the PQ will not be debating English this fall

The holding of the English second leader’s debate in the next election campaign in Quebec is being marred by the announced absence of CAQ leader and outgoing Premier François Legault and PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.

The Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) and the Parti Québécois (PQ) said on Friday that they did not intend to participate, unlike the Liberal Party of Québec (PLQ), Québec solidaire (QS) and the Conservative Party of Québec. (PCQ).

We declined invitations for two debates, including one in Englishsaid François Legault’s office. The Prime Minister will take part in debates organized by the TVA and Radio-Canada networks. It must be understood that every debate requires meaningful and meaningful preparation time.

Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, for his part, announced his decision on Twitter stating that the QP will not participate in the debate of English leaders. The official and common language in Quebec is French.the PQ leader argued, and added that he would remain available to answer questions from English -speaking journalists.

The English leaders debate is theoretically scheduled to take place on September 20. It is organized by a consortium consisting of CBC, CTV, Global and CJAD.

Such a debate took place in 2018 for the first time in Quebec history. This precedent was created with the participation of François Legault, Philippe Couillard (PLQ), Jean-François Lisée (PQ) and Manon Massé (QS).

The media consortium organizing the debate has not yet issued a statement regarding the denials. Therefore, we do not yet know if the game will take place without MM. Legault and St-Pierre Plamondon.
