Built in 1937 in the municipality of Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson, in the Laurentians, the Domaine-de-l’Estérel is a range of tourist buildings, including a hotel, stalls, a ski center, accommodation and a shopping. center, one of the first to open in the country.

Over the years, most of the buildings were destroyed. Only the shopping center, a masterpiece of art deco, has withstood the test of time and put in place the town hall and cultural activities after being sold to the municipality.

In 2013, the City sold the shopping center to a real estate developer, whose hotel condominium project was suspended in 2014. The building has since been abandoned.

The building was also classified as a heritage building in 2013.

According to the Cultural Heritage Act, it is prohibited to carry out work on a listed building – further demolish it – without permission from the Ministry of Culture.
