Thousands of Palestinians bid farewell this Friday (13) to Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian-American journalist who was killed during an Israeli military operation, in a burial full of violence following a police intervention at the start of the parade.
After the reporter was discharged from the hospital, incidents broke out when the police tried to disperse the crowd.
In the footage broadcast on Palestinian TV, the coffin fell to the ground after the police dispersed the people waving Palestinian flags.
According to the Red Crescent organization, 33 people were injured at the funeral, six of whom were hospitalized.
The European Union (EU) said it was “appalled” by this “useless” use of force and “deeply disturbed” by the US funeral footage. “We condemn the trespassing of a peaceful parade,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
The bodies of popular Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera, a 51-year-old Christian born in East Jerusalem, were taken to a church in the Holy City, where a mass was celebrated in his honor.

The crowd followed the coffin to the cemetery near the Old City, where Shireen Abu Ableh was buried next to her family.

An Israeli police officer was killed in an operation in Burqin, near Jenin, on Friday, according to an official statement. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad armed group claimed responsibility for the agent’s death.
