The Council of State has prohibited wearing the burkini in municipal swimming pools

These actions could go against article 40 of the 1881 law that “prohibits publicly announcing the economic assumption of fines.”

This case echoes the controversy in Grenoble. The new municipal swimming pool regulation led by Éric Piolle authorized the use of burkini-type swimsuits at the end of May. Following the suspension by the city administrative court, the municipality filed an appeal with the Council of State. The latter finally closed the door on burkinis in municipal swimming pools and thus Grenoble had to back down.

The decision was hailed at the time on Twitter by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
