Imam Hassan Iquioussen will be “expelled from French territory”, announces the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, this Thursday at noon on his Twitter account.
The minister underlines that “this preacher has sustained for years a hate speech against the values of France, contrary to our principles of secularism and equality between women and men”.
Hassan Iquioussen, a resident of northern France, is known for his numerous videos posted on YouTube and viewed tens of thousands of times. Of Moroccan nationality, the imam is close to muslims of france which replaced the former Union of Islamic Organizations in France.
controversial positions
According to Point, the decision was made following Hassan Iquioussen’s request for “renewal of his ten-year residence permit that was about to expire”. But the promulgation, in August 2021, of the law that confirms respect for the principles of the Republic led to a detailed examination of the positions adopted by the imam in the face of a possible renewal of his residence permit.
The Prefecture of the North analyzed the positions of Hassan Iquioussen “on a series of social issues, including secularism, the relationship between Sharia law and the laws of the Republic or equality between the sexes,” our colleagues indicate.
A review of many videos made by the imam fed the file presented on June 22 at the meeting of the departmental expulsion commission meeting in the prefecture.
“The prefect of the North went in person to defend the case before the magistrates with the unreserved support of the Minister of the Interior,” he adds. Point which indicates that a favorable opinion has been issued after examining the file.
When the expulsion is effective, Hassan Iquioussen will have to return to Morocco, but he will also be able to apply for a residence permit in a country other than France.
