More than two years of Covid have accustomed us to the regular return of the Health Defense Council to the Elysian agenda. The geopolitical turmoil caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine and the explosion in gas and electricity prices that we should expect, may lead us to get used to a new meeting.
In any case, Emmanuel Macron will gather around him a first Energy Defense Council in the Elysée Palace this Friday. Philippe Corbé, head of the political department of BFMTV, dissected the issues on the set this Tuesday morning:
“If companies have to reduce or stop their activity overnight due to lack of energy resources, it is the economy and therefore the sovereignty of France that is at stake. That is why the executive wants to organize the reduction of energy consumption instead of putting us in a position where we should suffer.”
“But beware, for individuals, we will stay in the incentive stage. There will be an information campaign on ecogestos. There will be those who say that it is not enough, but it is an incentive”, he pointed out.
The deed of the prince?
But in doing so, the executive exposes itself to another form of criticism from the opposition: that directed at the prince’s actions, and the presumed tendency of the head of state to make his decisions away from Parliament in both discreet and discretionary instances.
“The opponents will say once again that he favors a restricted forum to stage his crisis management. But if indeed there is a national security problem in the coming months, it is our energy supply”, says Philippe Corbé.
The Energy Defense Council on Friday should first of all renew the call for corporate responsibility launched on Monday by Élisabeth Borne, the prime minister, before the Medef.
“The effort will have to focus on companies that, within a month, will have to define a sobriety plan. And if within a month these sobriety plans are not up to par, then the government will organize reductions in energy consumption”, Philippe Corbé traced.
“That is rationing, but it will focus on business first,” he continued: “Why? To avoid ending up in a situation where in February it is cold, Putin cut off the gas and there, rationing for everyone.
