Bartlomiej Dragowski, one of Poland’s substitute goalkeepers – the Argentine national team’s third rival – for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, suffered a brutal injury this Sunday which will leave him out of the ecumenical event which starts next Sunday. It happened during the match between his team Spezia and Hellas Verona, on the 15th of the Italian Serie A.

Drągowski went far from his goal, on the right side, to clear a ball that fell to the ground, but the toe of the booty on his right leg sank into the grass and rival striker Kevin Lasagna put it ahead, resulting in the fracture.

The images are shocking and suggest that the injury will leave him out of the World Cup. The rest of those involved also became aware of the fracture only moments later, despite the goalkeeper wallowing in pain.

Bartlomiej Drągowski had been included in Poland’s 26-man roster for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he will be in group C alongside their latest rivals Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia. He was the third option behind Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus) and Lukasz Skorupski (Bologna).

Dragowski has stopped only two official matches for the Polish national team: a friendly against Finland in 2010 and last June against Belgium for the Nations League (1-6 defeat).
