There are still a few days left before the start of the World Cup in Qatar 2022, but Argentina has already begun to reap victories. On this occasion, it was done by the illustrator José Luis Am (32), from Salta, who participated and won the “Spotlight: Your Dreams” contest promoted by FIFA, whose goal was to find the best amateur work inspired by the world Cup.

Thousands of artists from around the world participated, but the international organization narrowed the dispute down to just 16 illustrations, and this is where the Salta native’s work stood out. For this final round, FIFA opened voting to the public and fans could choose their favorite illustration. The format was knockout, almost like in a World Cup, and José Luis’ illustration was able to constantly advance.

Colin Smith, director of operations of the World Cup, announced the winner in the last few hours, and extended his congratulations: “It will be a pleasure to receive José Luis at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. We have been inspired by many fantastic artists, fans and We want to extend our congratulations to the 16 finalists.”

The man from Salta, who defines himself as an ‘architect and visual artist’ on social media, won the competition thanks to an impressive illustration showing the World Cup in the centre, partly covered by the Argentine flag. From right to left, images of Diego Armando Maradona and Lionel Messi are added, both wearing the ‘Albiceleste’ captain’s ribbon.

From a statement, FIFA was also instructed to remind that the goal of this campaign is to showcase new talent, celebrate the optimism of football fans a few days before the start of the tournament and prioritize the unifying and inspiring power of the trophy . .

“We are very excited to offer everyone a platform to imagine, illustrate and share those dreams through the power of amateur art,” concluded the leader.

And José Luis, for his part, shared his first feelings after claiming himself the winner of the competition: “I am delighted to have won. I strongly believe that art and football allow you to dream, so combining both worlds and expressing them through this competition was very special to me.“.

As a reward for his work that has stood out among so many others, Am will travel to Qatar to support the Argentina national team. What other dreams will come true on Sunday December 18th?
