Moroccans celebrating victory in Paris clash with French police as tension rises ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final

Morocco’s impressive victory over Portugal and their passage to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar sparked celebrations for thousands of migrants from that African country who live in Paris and, a few hours later, serious incidents with the French police on the streets of the capital.

The confrontation between the Moroccan fans and the French forces started on the Champs-Élysées shortly after, the French national team eliminated England and advanced to the semifinals, where they will face the African team.

Moroccan fans, as happened last Wednesday on the occasion of the match against Spain (which meant a passport to the quarter-finals of the World Cup), had celebrated the victory by launching “heavy fireworks” which complicated traffic in the capital Dutch.
