The Qatar 2022 World Cup offers stories of all colors and for all tastes. Batacazos, a DT streamer, photogenic fans, colossal performances, chants and the “what are you looking at, idiot”: from Monday everything will remain in the memory. Now, even the tournament has left a unusual situation in the Doha Metro: Argentinian fans scared a little boy, but then calmed him down with lullabies and stick lullabies.
The episode took place on the red line of the Doha metro, on the eve of Tuesday’s semi-final between Argentina and Croatia, in which Lionel Scaloni’s team won 3-0 with two goals from Julián Álvarez and a goal from a Lionel Messi penalty. Before the burst of joy at the qualification for the World Cup in Qatar 2022, there was also room for overflows.
This was demonstrated by the video that a user posted on his TikTok account and which went viral on social media. “A boy was scared and Argentinian fans sang lullabies to him”wrote Joaquín Menéndez, who gave the kick-off for the scene to start rolling in the networks.
In the images – taken on the subway line that ends in Lusail, where the game took place – we see a couple protecting a child who is recovering from shock and maintaining a hint of pout
Dressed in soft caps and shirts of the Argentine national team, the fans clapped almost silently and sang the lines of a traditional lullaby: “My son was afraid, my sun was afraid, go to sleep, piece of my heart.”
The universal melody seemed to have an effect on the boy, who – perhaps encouraged by his sister, who was also watching over him – was already encouraged to throw several glances at the albiceleste fans.
The children’s medley continued with a tribute to Maria Elena Walsh. “Manuelita used to live in Pehuajó, but one day she left. No one really knew why she went to Paris,” the fans sang.
By now the child was no longer able to mask his enchantment with the choir of celestial voices. Even the boy’s father and mother had smiles on their faces.
There was no “total thanks”. The auction was rather an excuse. “Sorry sorry”, exclaimed one of the Argentinian fans, in improvised English. Attentive and contained applause crowned the mission accomplished.
