On Sunday, at the feet of Gonzalo Montiel and after a month of pure football, the historic World Cup in Qatar 2022 ended. The Argentine national team defeated France on penalties and, led by an inspired Lionel Messi, remained with his third World Cup. It was a different tournament, one that had several rule changes and more than one surprise. For this reason, from the B/R Football page they have taken care of creating a fun animation that summarizes everything that happened in Qatar.
The medium Bleacher Report Football, which had already broadcast a cartoon featuring the greatest protagonists of international football on the eve of the start of the World Cup, closed its series of animations with a spectacular video of just under three minutes. In the cartoon published a few days before the start of the World Cup, Messi was presented as one of the great candidates to win the title. This new animation shows Rosario’s man winning the duel against Mbappé, and finally consecrated himself world champion.
To make the animation, the page chooses a parody format, and then reviews each of the great moments left over from the World Cup in Qatar. The animated short begins in Doha, where the Qatari host receives the rest of the A-group members to finally be expelled from their home by Ecuador, Holland and Senegal, this is in reference to the venue’s early elimination from the World Cup. Then, he starts focusing on each of the groups.
In group B, the cultural clash between England and the United States stands out, represented respectively by Harry Kane and Christian Pulisic. As far as Argentina’s Group C is concerned, the emphasis is on the surprise defeat against Saudi Arabia in the opening match and the subsequent meeting between Mexico and Poland. Furthermore, Bleacher Report points Cristiano Ronaldo to a comedic clip, where you can see the Portuguese reviewing in detail his disallowed goal against Uruguay from no less than inside the VAR booth.
Reference is also made to the problems in the Belgian dressing room, based on the words of Kevin De Bruyne, who had assured: “We have no chance, we are too old”. The difficult elimination of Uruguay also had its place in the video, none other than the figure of Luís Suarez, represented in a cartoon crying in front of the South Korean feat. Halfway through the video, we begin reviewing the World Cup Finals.
From Memphis Depay who leads the Netherlands to the quarterfinals, passing through England’s victory against Senegal, up to the Brazilians and their dance against South Korea, in which Tite himself also took part. To represent Argentina’s match against Australia, B/R Football chose to parody Lautaro Martínez, who is shown playing a game of the popular beer pong. In the clipping, Toro fails every intervention from him, until Messi appears on the scene to “finally dig the ball”.
And if there’s something that couldn’t be overlooked, it was the clash between Argentina and the Netherlands, perhaps one of the most controversial of the entire World Cup. In short, the focus is on how close this match was, and they even parodied Virgil van Dijk’s huge push on Leandro Paredes. Also appearing on the scene is Spanish referee Mateu Lahoz, sent off with more than a dozen yellow cards in that match.
In the centre, the focus is on Spain’s surprise elimination against Morocco and, of course, replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in the round of 16. Indeed, having stayed with the match against the Netherlands in the short, you can see how Messi assists the Portuguese with his now historic ‘What are you looking at, fool?’. The Portuguese’s elimination doesn’t take on much relevance, but it highlights the appearance of a goat with the Argentina national team’s jersey -alluding to Messi-, driving Croatian defender Gvardiol practically crazy.
At that moment we see how Mbappé greets his teammate Achraf Hakimi and the rest of the Moroccans in Doha, when there is still someone else in the Frenchman’s house: none other than Leo. There, the World Cup descends from the sky, only for Messi and Mbappé to contest it. Finally, the captain of the national team appears lifting the most beautiful trophy of all, accompanied by Sergio Agüero and Dibu Martínez. Thus, with Leo on Kun’s shoulders and the archer dancing with recognition in his hand, this amusing animation ends, which is already very popular on the networks.
