Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton could get into the football business.

Removed in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid and relegated to the battle for the Premier title, Chelsea’s remaining goal is the FA Cup. They will make the final on May 14 against Liverpool, leaving Manchester City on the way.

However, in London they are starting to think about next season and one of the main issues on the Blues ’agenda is knowing who will be the new owner of the club after. Roman Abramovich, owner since 2003, was fired for maintaining relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the context of the war in Ukraine.

In this context, itching at the end was Martin Broughton, president of airline British Airways and former president of Liverpool. The British businessman presented his candidacy less than a month ago and received national government approval for his clear English influence.

Along with Broughton, David Blizter and Josh Harris were added as majority investors. They are American businessmen, co-owners of Crystal Palace along with John Textor, so if the project in question is to progress, they will have to sell their shares in Las Águilas and focus entirely on Chelsea.

In addition, the two offers appear as main competitors. On the one hand, that of Todd Boehly, co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a baseball team that competes in MLB, and, on the other hand, led by Steve Pagliuca, a shareholder in the NBA’s Boston Celtics and Italian Serie A’s Atalanta .

Broughton, Blitzter and Harris are not alone, but are supported by a large number of investors, including Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton. As Sky News reported, the women’s tennis legend and the seven -time Formula 1 champion decided to combine and they are willing to contribute 10 million pounds each, which equates to just over 13 million dollars.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that these two sports legends have been involved in businesses of this type, but instead they have some experience in developing sports brands around the world.

Williams and his wife Alexis Ohanian, along with actress Natalie Portman and other personalities from the world of arts and sports, they formed an investment fund made up mostly of women who produced Angel City FCa club that competes in the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League), the major women’s soccer league in the United States.

Hamilton has also participated as an investor in various companies or start-ups, the best known is Zapp, a fast delivery app for healthy eating in London. Although details were not provided about the F1 driver’s contribution to that project, it was found that he supported the company in its goal of reaching hundreds of millions of customers worldwide.
