Rosario, one of the cradles of Argentine football, paid tribute to two of its prodigal sons and brand new world champions: Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria.
One from Newell’s and the other from Rosario Central. Both footballers, key to the consecration in Qatar, have their tribute in their hometown.
From 21:00 this Friday until midnight, the Flag Monument was the scene of an impressive multimedia show with 10 and 11 exclusive protagonists.
The images relating to the historic realization, 36 years after the consecration in Mexico, were projected and adapted to the relief of the iconic point of the city of Santa Fe.
The big surprise of the show were the exciting recorded messages that both Lio and Angelito dedicated above all to the city.
“I wanted to thank all the people of Rosario for the affection they always have, not just now; Whenever I had to come for a few days, I always received so much affection, and after that we got so much more,” said the Argentina national team captain.
And he added: “I’m happy with how everything went and the joy we managed to achieve. A big hug to all, I wish you a happy new year and I hope that next year will be good for everyone. A big kiss and let’s not look for Rosario”.
For his part, Di María, in tune with the event, said in his recording: “I want to send a very big greeting to all the people who are here today at the Monument. Thanks for the love, for coming. Unfortunately we cannot be present because we too have families and we are with them, enjoying the days we just have to stay in Rosario”.
And he continued: “I am happy that I managed to achieve the goal of being world champion. I received many videos from all over Rosario at the Monument. And for us to see that after every match it was something unforgettable, all those moments where we could win will never leave my mind and to see every Argentinian celebrating just like us and with enormous joy.”
Finally, the closing of Di María’s message was: “I want to wish you happy holidays, that this year ends in the best way, that the next also begins in the best way. I send you a huge kiss, thank you very much for the affection you always have. Go Argentina, go Rosario”.
As the minutes passed, a real crowd arrived who enjoyed, among other things, a giant inflatable figure of the team captain, who finished the tournament with seven goals, almost half of all those scored by Lionel Scaloni’s team during the whole contest.
For his part, “Fideo” respected his healthy habit of scoring in the final, as he did in Beijing 2008, Copa América 2021, Finalissima and obviously at the Lusail stadium, after a perfect counterattack that put the partial 2-0 on french.
On the Monument, Messi raising the World Cup, shouting some of his goals and Di María, celebrating with his classic heart formed with his hands, were some of the images that moved those present, which like the last two weeks, do not let you relive the emotions of the last month in Qatar.
Organized by the Municipality of Rosario, the cartographic projection was created on the front facade of the tower, from the bow towards the river, but the entire Civic Court was also illuminated.
The light show also saw puns and phrases related to the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the ‘Scaloneta’, as the new world champion was called some time ago.
Since December 18, when Argentina cleared the final hurdle in Doha, the team as a whole, and each separately, has gone from tribute to tribute.
First was the truncated caravan from Ezeiza’s AFA headquarters in a micro convertible that had to be suspended due to the euphoria of the more than 5 million people who took to the streets to chant their names.
Then, in their hometowns and towns, each had their special welcome and tributes such as naming streets after their surname, being declared a distinguished citizen, and countless applauses.
Pablo Aimar, the coach’s assistant, has expressed on his social networks that if it’s a dream, they shouldn’t wake him up. “A dream come true”, Scaloni himself wrote.
