The Vancouver Formula E race has been postponed to 2023

Canada is set to return to Formula E after a 4-year absence, but the race scheduled for July 2 on the streets of Vancouver has been postponed to 2023.

The organizing committee, the OSS group, whose offices are in Montreal, confirmed the news Friday via a press release.

After exploring all possible ways in the City of Vancouver, the OSS Group had to make the difficult decision to postpone the Vancouver E-Prix until 2023. The City of Vancouver supports this decision. Presenting a world-class event is the organizer’s priorityrefers to the press release, posted on the official website of the Championship.

The pandemic apparently prevented the OSS group from reaching the deadlines set under the FEO (Formula E Operations) group agreement.

According to the organizer, 30,000 tickets have already been sold.

The City of Vancouver was not financially involved in the event. Financial risk is assumed 100% by the OSS team.

The event includes not only the 10th stop of the 2022 Formula E season, but also a two -day sustainable energy conference.

This is the second time Formula E has had a problem in Canada.

The race organized in Montreal in 2017 caused controversy. The contract provided for two more, in 2018 and 2019, but Valérie Plante, then candidate for mayor of Montreal, made the cancellation of the contract as an electoral commitment.

Madame Plante won as mayoralty of Montreal and kept her promise. The contractual link to Formula E was broken due to an out -of -court settlement estimated at $ 3 million.
