Jakub Jankto announces on his social networks that he is gay and breaks one of the great taboos of football: “I don’t want to hide anymore”

Czech soccer team player Jakub JanktoThe 27-year-old declared his homosexuality on his social networks on Monday and became one of the first professional footballers to do so publicly.

“I’m gay and I don’t want to hide anymore”the footballer on loan from Spain’s Getafe to Sparta Prague said on his Twitter account last year.

“Like everyone I have my strengths and weaknesses”, indicates playing in a 44-second video in which he intends to “encourage other people” to take the plunge and live their lives without having to look other than who they are. Likewise, Jankto reclaims her desire to live her own “life in freedom, without fear, without prejudice, without violence, but with love”.

First, he briefly recalled his life and professional career: “I have family, I have friends, I have a job, which I have been trying to do in the best possible way for years, with seriousness, professionalism and passion.”

Jankto is not having a good season at Sparta and his private life is in turmoil following his separation from his wife. Prior to Monday’s announcement, the player had also appeared in the heart press with a new female partner.

Jankto, senior national team of his country since 2017 (45 appearances), played from 2014 to 2021 for Italian football (Ascoli, Udinese and Sampdoria), and then in the First Division with Getafe, until he was sold after an injury on loan to Sparta from his hometown.

Getafe’s message

Getafe He has released a message through his social networks “maximum respect” towards Jankto after the player’s announcement on Monday that shook up an environment where very few dared to take the step that the Czech footballer did.

“Our utmost respect and unconditional support to our footballer Jakub Jankto”says the Madrid club, in which Jankto arrived in 2021 and played fourteen games until he loaned him to Sparta Prague last year.

The Czech club acknowledges that its player “spoke openly about his sexual orientation with the board of directors, the coach and his teammates some time ago”.

“Everything else relates to his personal life. There are no more comments. No more questions. You have our support. Live your life, Jacob. Nothing else matters,” says Sparta.
