Commodore Ultra Trailthe new mountain race organized by the TMX team with the support of the Comodoro Tourism Board, celebrated its first edition in 2023 with distances of 5, 10, 21, 42 and 80 kilometres. The event was attended by elite runners such as Sofi Cantilo, Lali Moratorio and Israel Escudero who braved the harsh Patagonian climate in a mountain race ideal for everyone thanks to the challenging terrain and natural beauty of the Rocas Coloradas protected area.
This Natural Protected Area, skirting the imposing turquoise sea, climbing the emblematic Pico Salamanca and crossing the red lagoon, has offered an incomparable landscape of extremes between the Patagonian steppe and the coast of the Argentine Sea covering a continental area of 587 km2 and covers a marine area of 352 km2.
Rocas Coloradas is an intact terracotta paradise. It is characterized by its extreme natural beauty and its archaeological value. It combines plateaus and flattened terraces, the aridity of the desert and the immensity of the sea. It brings together a great diversity of coastal vegetation and fauna, a petrified forest with the remains of coniferous trunks over 60 million years old and the presence of remains of Paleocene palm trees and a colony of sea lions. There is also the Lunar Valley, the Monte delle Meteorite and precious anthropological and cultural resources.
The departures and arrivals of all distances were made at the access to the ANPRC (Rocas Coloradas Natural Protected Area) a few meters from the beach and the sea, with excellent views of the islet of Tómbola, and were at different times, therefore the landscapes were modified according to the dawn, the day and the night.
Comodoro Ultra Trail was one of the attractions during the Carnival weekend to mark Comodoro’s anniversary. The city lived an unforgettable sports and family experience where even the runners were entertained with incredible live shows such as Nahuel Pennisi, La Sole, María Becerra, Rombai and Los Palmeras, among others.
