Jose Nestor Pekerman left the selection of Venezuela before the start of the qualification process for which he had been called up, with the interest placed in achieving the unprecedented qualification for the World Cup. The former coach of the teams of Argentina and Colombia had a plan for the ambitious goal.
Pekerman had made a reserve tournament – called the Projection Tournament – a condition of carrying out his work to strengthen the growth of local football. However, the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) did not follow up on the initiative and the short circuit would have been one of the reasons for the coach’s decision, although not the only one.
According to information published by the newspaper Olé, another of the violations would be linked to the promise of improvements to the properties and structures in which the team was supposed to work. The publication also notes an “accumulation of debts with staff and collaborators, which has made daily life difficult in recent times”.
The sum of the violations ended the process that began early last year and continued until 2026, just like the Pekerman label, fond of long-term projects,
The news has shocked the football world ever since Pekerman’s landing involved a long period of work and he had collaborators he trusted: Fernando Batista and Patricio Camps in the Majors and Fabricio Coloccini in the Juveniles.
After his successful spell with the Colombian national team, the 73-year-old coach slammed the door and La Vinotinto was sidelined just over 20 days from the two friendlies scheduled in Saudi Arabia, against that country’s selection and that of Uzbekistan .
The last friendlies played by Vinotinto were played last November in Dubai against Syria and Panama, the first with a defeat and the second with a draw.
