Abdel BohazamaDT of Angers, generated controversy and inconvenience this Tuesday, when in the press conference he tried to defend his Algerian player, Ilyes Chettiaccused of sexual assault for touching a girl in a bowling alley.
The sentence was given in the preview of his team’s duel against Montpellier, where the coach supported Chetti’s ownership, ruling: “We’ve All Touched a Girl Once”. The saying was revealed by the Ouest France newspaper and confirmed by the coach himself to L’Equipe.
Likewise, Bouhazama came out to explain why he made that comment, clarifying what the sentence is taken out of context and that he would never have sustained such a situation “being the father of two daughters”.
However, Angers fans themselves didn’t take kindly to the sayings and came to ask for the the resignation of his coach. That said, the club’s board had to issue a statement on the matter. “The comments in question, viewed out of context, are unacceptable and reprehensible, but viewed in their pre-match chat context, they are more clumsy and ruder,” said Mohammed Sifaoui, director of communications at Angers.
The 28-year-old defender, who is still under indictment in a court, is due to stand trial in April over charges he touched a woman in a bowling alley last month.
As if the Parisian club’s fans were close to holding on, Montpellier beat them 5-0 in their last round, with Chetti starting, and are in the relegation zone with only 10 points out of 78 possible.
