Stillitano couldn’t resist the pressure of the bad results and stopped being Independiente’s DT

A couple of hours after consuming the draw between Independent AND Colonthe management of the Avellaneda team has released a statement announcing what has been expected for days: Leandro Stillitano has stopped being the team’s DT.

“Club Atlético Independiente and Leandro Stillitano have mutually agreed to interrupt his mandate as first team coach,” reads the brief text in which the news was confirmed.

And he adds: “On behalf of the institution, we want to thank and highlight the professionalism of Leandro and his technical staff in facing this delicate moment for the club. In the next few days we will announce who will be in charge of directing the professional team.”

The name of Gustavo Alfaro, who comes from the direction of the Ecuadorian national team at the World Cup in Qatar, is the candidate to occupy the red bench. From Avellaneda they assure they have not spoken to anyone but they are looking for a DT with more shooting and experience, with enough shoulders to support a team in which they have a lot of trust.

The meeting with Doman

The meeting lasted a few minutes. It happened in the locker room. there were the president Fabiano Doman and the manager Paul Knight waiting for a gesture of Leandro Stillitano. In the press room the name of Gustavo Alfaro was already under consideration, while in the room the fans didn’t stop insulting the management and the coach. But far from being weak, the Independiente coach claimed to have strength.

“I want to continue,” the DT told them and walked out to face the reporters. It was a move not to let Doman think and speak. “I spoke to the leaders, but as we do every time a game ends. Football is like this: win you are good, lose you are bad. I intend to continue. As long as I have strength and see a response from the players, I will continue. This situation had to be overcome, we knew it when we took office”, Stillitano released in the conference while the managers were still in the locker room.

In the corridors of Ricardo Bochini there was a rumor that Doman already had the decision to fire Stillitano. Remember: the red plays next Sunday against Ciudad de Bolívar for the Argentine Cup. In the tournament they have just one win in eight appearances and have failed to win in their four home games.

Goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey had left his feelings. “There are things that are uphill, today everything costs us double but we have to continue to break through with all our strength because this club is asking for it,” he told ESPN. And he added: “There are eight dates, there are a lot to go and we have to move on”. In this new chapter there will no longer be Stillitano but there will be another DT.
