It’s been a tough week Mouth. After back-to-back defeats, against Banfield and against Instituto de Córdoba, DT Hugo Ibarra was booed by La Bombonera and rumors that his relationship with the team had ended were not long in coming. On the eve of this Saturday’s match Argentina cup against OlympusEl Negro surprised reporters covering the practice and gave himself an impromptu lecture.
The first thing he clarified was how is his relationship with the dressing room: “With the players we are fantastic, we have a fantastic round trip,” began the DT.
After falling out with Instituto on Sunday, Ibarra suspended the players’ day off and called the players to a meeting where they gave a self-criticism. “It was a normal conversation, we always have it with the group, it was no different. We talked about football, trying to reverse this situation, 2 consecutive defeats, we have a chance on Saturday,” said El Negro.
However, DT denied that after the Bombonera defeat the players were released: “At no point did I say I would give them away on Monday. The first thing was to train, then we decided to rest in the afternoon. What I have talked to them about will remain behind closed doors. It will always be like this and face to face.”
Boca have played 10 games this year and lost four. It all started with the defeat against Racing in Abu Dhabi to then fall three times in the Professional League. However, Ibarra believes that the best sign that can overcome the situation is in the position the team held during the last tournament: “There are always things to improve. Last year was a difficult year where we grabbed team fourteen and managed to lift. They are necessary participants in this situation. It was difficult to recover and overtake the leader. When it happened, we were deservedly champions, regardless of what they say.”
