Independent is immersed in a deep crisis. From an economic, sporting and managerial point of view, the Red is experiencing a stormy present. This Tuesday, Fabián Doman stepped down as club president a little less than six months after the inauguration, voted by the members and the situation gets worse. Whoever came out to comment on it was one of the institution’s latest idols: Gabriel Milito.

Gaby spoke at a press conference following his Argentinos Juniors’ tremendous 5-1 defeat against Unión at La Paternal and did not hide his anger at what is happening in one part of Avellaneda.

“There are those responsible and I know who they are, not just the CD but also whoever did it. That person who beats his chest saying he’s from Independiente and we all know who he is, how he behaved after winning the South American. I have everything very clear. They let him do what he wanted and therein lies the responsibility of the leaders. I think I was clear enough,” the DT expressed.

The one who commanded the champion team of the 2017 Copa Sudamericana was Ariel Holan, who took office on December 29, 2016 after the departure of Milito himself.

What happens in Independent?

Through a statement, El Rojo has made public the steps to follow: within the next 90 days a meeting will be convened to determine the next president (always within the same leadership) of the institution. Furthermore, in the same official note, small achievements of the current CD are mentioned – criticized by the fans who went to protest at the Av. Miter headquarters – in the midst of the complicated economic and sporting panorama. To make matters worse, Pablo Repetto canceled his landing at Avellaneda for everything that had happened.

And Grindetti? The problem with this political fan of Red (and mayor of Lanús) is that his day-to-day tasks of running the party he rules take up a lot of time. Will he be able to play simultaneously as a leader and as a character in public management? Not only that: Grindetti is fully engaged in the electoral campaign, given that he is a candidate for Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires for the PRO.

The feeling is that he will be more of a testimonial president than a man dedicated full time to solving the serious crisis that the club is going through on all fronts. That’s a long way from the desire you might have when it comes to doing it… And not to mention when you’re going to have to compete in a general election that’s going to be extremely hectic.

Third in the list of leaders is another journalist: John Marconi, second vice. Young and very committed to the institution, he had disagreements with various members of the current CD and for this he remained outside the table where big decisions are made. Today, in fact, he is dedicated to the management of women’s football.
