“FC Barcelona and player Jordi Alba have reached an agreement to terminate the contract the player had with the club until the end of the 2023-2024 season,” Barça said in their message.
“FC Barcelona speaks publicly his thanks to Jordi Alba for the professionalism, commitment, dedication and always positive and close treatment he has always shown towards all levels that make up the Barça family, and wishes him good luck and successes for the future. Barça will always be your home,” he added.
Alba joined Barcelona, a club where he made his debut at a young age, from Valencia in 2012 and with the Catalan club won 19 titlesof which six in the Spanish league -the last one this season- and one in the Champions League (2015).
Key protagonist of that team he had the “MSN” forwardwith Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis SuarezJordi has become the Argentine’s perfect partner in every advance by his side, getting along perfectly with the 10 culé.
The 34-year veteran has been a major figure in the squad over the last decade, shining in defense and on the left wing, although this season he had seen demoted by the young Alejandro Balde.
Jordi Alba played 450 games for Barcelonawith a balance of 27 goals and 91 assists.
With the announcement of his departure from the club, he follows in the footsteps of another iconic player like Sergio Busquet, who will also leave the club at the end of the tournament. Both will play their last home match at the Camp Nou on Sunday against Mallorca.
With the Spanish team, Jordi Alba has an important title, that of European 2012where he scored a goal in Roja’s 4-0 victory in the final in Kyiv against Italy.
It is worth mentioning that, like Jordi and Busquets, he was in November last year Gerard Pique who said goodbye not only to Barcelona but to football, overwhelmed by the criticisms he had received in the final part of his career.
